Vancouver Island ist nicht nur für Wale, Surfen, moosbehangene Wälder und neblige Küsten bekannt, sondern beherbergt auch die weltweit höchste Dichte an Schwarzbären. 7.000, zumindest wenn man Google Glauben schenken darf und meine zwei übermütigen Begleiter, aka Ty und Sunny, bestehen darauf, dass wir zumindest einige davon persönlich treffen. Ich hoffe nur, dass wir dabei nicht integraler Bestandteil eines Bärensnacks werden. Angeblich hilft ja auch Abstand halten – mindestens 15 Meter, besser noch mit einem Fluss dazwischen. Gibt’s tragbare Flüsse? Nein? Dann sollte ich vielleicht doch besser in Bärenspray investieren.

N meint, wir hätten diesmal keinen großen Plan, nur eine grobe Richtung: Vancouver Island. Regenwald, Pazifik, vielleicht ein paar Seeotter und Wale, wenn wir Glück haben. Alles andere würde sich unterwegs ergeben – wie es auf Vancouver Island eben üblich sei.
